What is the course about?
This adult craft and design course is designed for learners who have completed the Level 1 Award in Creative Craft (Craft and Design). Building on the foundational skills developed at Level 1, you’ll explore materials and processes in greater depth, refining techniques and expanding your ability to express your own creative ideas.
As the course progresses, you'll be encouraged to take a more individual and personal approach to craft and design. Areas of focus may include drawing, printmaking, stained glass, or ceramic figurative sculpture. In addition, you’ll gain an introduction to creative enterprise and explore potential career paths within the creative craft industries.
At the end the course, you will participate in our annual art exhibition, where you'll develop, present, and evaluate your work in a professional setting.
Why should I choose the course?
This course is ideal for students who have completed the Level 1 Award in Creative Craft (Craft and Design) and want to continue developing their skills. It’s also well-suited to those with existing experience in craft who are looking to refine their techniques while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.
At Warrington & Vale Royal College, you’ll benefit from learning within a well-established art department, supported by a team of highly experienced and specialised teaching staff dedicated to helping you grow creatively and professionally.
What will I learn?
You will explore a variety of craft and design processes, including drawing, printmaking, stained glass, and ceramic sculpture. Alongside developing practical skills, you’ll gain an understanding of different materials, techniques, and creative enterprises, as well as potential career opportunities within the creative arts industries. Throughout the course, you’ll be encouraged to take an increasingly personalised approach to your work, which will culminate in a final exhibition showcasing your achievements.
What will the course lead on to?
Upon completion of this course, you’ll have developed a strong portfolio of work and a deeper understanding of craft and design processes. This can support progression into further creative study or independent practice.
Are there any links with industry and university?
We regularly have guest speakers and practicing artists who deliver talks to our students. We also run a range of local and national trips to various galleries and museums. We work closely with external agencies and employers to develop ‘live briefs’ which allow our students to explore real life projects. Recent projects have allowed students to work with Culture Warrington, Warrington Museum, Lion Salt Works, and Blakemere Craft Centre. If you’re studying at Warrington campus, you’ll enjoy learning in our Advanced Creative & Digital Skills Academy.
What support is available?
We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Wellbeing Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
