What is the course about?
This part-time adult course is ideal for those aged 19+ who are ready to build upon their foundational skills in mixed media. You’ll explore more advanced tools and techniques across a variety of artistic mediums to create expressive and dynamic works of art.
Through hands-on sessions, you’ll learn to work with a range of materials and develop a deeper understanding of how to apply them effectively across different art styles.
Why should I choose the course?
If you’ve completed the Introduction to Mixed Media or Introduction to Watercolours course—or have some basic experience with art materials—this next steps mixed media course will help you push your creative boundaries.
What will I learn?
The course will show you how to use a variety of advanced techniques to create art pieces including:
- Oil paint
- Ink and brush pen
- Watercolour pencils
- Charcoal
- Clay
Each medium will be taught with a focus on correct technique and creative experimentation.
Please note: watercolour painting is not usually included in this course, as dedicated watercolour courses are available separately.

What are the entry requirements?
This course is open to adults aged 19 and over who have an interest in art and are looking to advance their skills. While it's ideal to have completed the Introduction to Mixed Media or Introduction to Watercolours course, those with previous basic knowledge are also welcome.
You should be willing to:
- Take part in class discussions and creative activities
- Reflect on your progress through weekly self-assessment using an individual learning plan.
