How much does it cost to hire an apprentice?
The cost of employing an apprentice depends on the size of your organisation. For small to medium enterprises (SMEs), employing an apprentice is highly cost-effective as training is fully funded for apprentices aged under 22, and for those aged over 22, employers contribute just 5% of the training band.
Levy-paying employers pay the full cost of training, with prices varying by apprenticeship standard, and must also pay apprentice wages. All employers are required to pay wages, but apprentices are typically more affordable than fully qualified staff.
If your apprentice is under 25, you won’t pay National Insurance contributions – saving up to £3,000 per apprentice per year.
