What is the course about?
This short course is perfect for beginners or returning students looking to refresh and build on their floristry skills. It provides you with the essential techniques needed to confidently create your own floral arrangements. Whether you’re new to floristry or have previously completed the Basics in Floristry course, this course is an ideal starting point for your creative journey.

You’ll gain foundational skills and techniques, building on those from the Basics course. This course is ideal if you’re passionate about floristry as a hobby or considering a career change, it offers a strong foundation to bring your floral ideas to life.
What will I learn?
Throughout the course, you will:
• Learn and develop essential floristry techniques to create a variety of designs, such as circular posies, triangular arrangements, and sheath designs
• Identify key floristry techniques and begin to understand important design principles
• Explore floral materials used in your arrangements and discover how to care for your creations
• Understand how to cost a design for sale, including material breakdowns, labour, and profit margins
• Incorporate sustainable materials into your designs for an eco-friendly approach
You will receive informal feedback from your tutor and track your progress weekly using an individual learning plan.
What will the course lead on to?
This course prepares you to progress to Advanced Floristry and other themed short courses, such as Spring, Summer, Wedding, and Christmas designs, depending on availability during the academic year. It also equips you with the basic skills to pursue accredited courses with other providers.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if it is required and a Wellbeing Team that are on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

What are the entry requirements?
This beginner-friendly course is open to adults aged 19 and over. No prior floristry experience is required, though learners who have completed the Basics to Floristry course are also welcome to enrol.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
The College provides the basic flowers, foliage, and materials needed for your weekly designs. You will be asked to bring some additional foliage and your own containers to enhance your arrangements—your tutor will provide guidance during the first class.
Please bring a pair of floristry or household scissors to each session.
If you are sensitive to handling flowers or foliage, we recommend wearing gardening or rubber gloves for your comfort.
