What is the course about?
This hands-on course introduces adults to a range of craft skills and design techniques. Students will explore stained glass, printing, drawing, and ceramic figurative modelling, while developing their own creative ideas and design processes. The emphasis is on both technical skill-building and personal artistic expression.

If you have an interest in craft and design and would like to gain new skills and knowledge, then this course is perfect for you. We have a well-established art department at Warrington & Vale Royal College, with highly experienced and specialised teaching staff. We welcome all students who have an interest in the subject and would like to learn more in a friendly and welcoming learning environment.
What will I learn?
By the end of the course, you will:
- Gain confidence in using a variety of craft materials and tools
- Understand key design principles (composition, balance, colour, texture)
- Develop original design ideas through sketchbooks and experimentation
- Produce finished craft pieces in stained glass, print, and ceramics
- Build a portfolio showcasing their creative journey.
Skills and techniques covered:
Stained Glass
- Cutting, assembling, and soldering glass pieces
- Exploring colour, light, and pattern in design
Printing
- Lino cut and print techniques
- Experimenting with textures and layering
Drawing
- Tessellation, designing patterns
- Using mixed media to develop design ideas
Ceramic Figurative Modelling
- Hand-building and sculpting techniques
- Exploring form, proportion, and surface decoration.
What will the course lead on to?
Upon completion of this course, you can progress onto the Level 1 and 2 Certificate in Creative Craft - Art and Design to further your skills and qualifications.
