Our Commitment to Sustainability
Our Sustainability Committee meet on a regular basis to discuss cross-college activity, share ideas, consider current issues and the effects of our activities on not just college, but all of our lives and futures. Chair of the Committee and Deputy Principal: Finance and Resources, Michelle Seeley, pictured left, leads the committee and has become a member of the Warrington Climate Emergency Commission to help tackle the climate crisis.

At Warrington & Vale Royal College, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword. We’re serious about climate change, our carbon footprint and our impact on future generations. That’s why this year, we’ve scrapped the hundred-page books and built a fully digital 16-18 prospectus.
As the first college in the North West to make this transformation, we are proud to be a driving force of change in further education. We have already saved a staggering 240 trees, totalling over 2 million pieces of paper. If we piled high the prospectuses that we’ve not printed this year alone, it would be taller than the Statue or Liberty and Big Ben.
Create your interactive prospectus todayIn August 2023, we began the installation of solar panels at our Warrington campus which is a huge step forward in our sustainability agenda.
Each year the solar panels are projected to produce an impressive 352, 296 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity for the college, resulting in the reduction of 75.2 tonnes of carbon emissions. The solar panels will generate 30% of the college’s electrical consumption, making a long-lasting and impactful difference.
On Wednesday 19th October 2022, we took time to remember Colin Daniels, ex Chair of Governors and Craig Atherton, our HE Sports Lecturer - two valued, and very much missed, members of staff that sadly passed away in 2020 and in 2021.
We were joined by their families and colleagues as we planted trees in their memory at our Warrington campus – a place where they both made a huge difference to the success of the college.
Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.” The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030.
Warrington Climate Emergency Commission
The Warrington Climate Emergency Commission was set up by the council after they declared a climate emergency in 2019. The commission aims to lead the local public conversation on the climate emergency, including the direction we should be taking and what we can do in Warrington to help.
