What is the course about?
This practical course builds on the skills learned in the introduction to life drawing course. On the next steps course, you will focus on more sophisticated and developed outcomes, increasing both the scale and complexity of your studies. You will work on tone and colour, transitioning to wet media in the form of acrylic painting. Poses will become increasingly complex, more challenging and will stretch your drawing abilities.
Why should I choose the course?
This is a next steps course aimed at adults aged 19 and over who have completed the introduction to life drawing course and enjoy learning new skills and techniques. Students will produce life drawings from direct observation, whilst developing the skills learnt on the introduction course. Those with previous and recent life drawing experience may join the next steps course without completing the introduction course.
What will I learn?
During the course you will learn through demonstrations and practical work. Key skills will include:
· Foreshortening, scale and proportion
· Using tone to capture form
· Mixing of flesh tones using acrylic paints
· Capturing facial features and a likeness of the model
· Layering and building up a painting of the model from direct observation.
· Capturing the model in a variety of poses including standing, seated and reclining.
What will the course lead on to?
You will develop a range of knowledge and skills to better prepare you for future employment. The ability to draw is a fundamental skill, applicable for all creative industries, from architecture and product design, through to illustration, fashion and fine art. The skills developed on this course will be transferable to all forms of drawing and design.
