What is the course about?
This course will help you to develop your skills and knowledge in drawing and sketching, through use of a wide range of materials and techniques. You will explore various subjects throughout this workshop-based course, whilst also developing your understanding of other artists and their approaches to drawing and sketching.
Why should I choose the course?
This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in developing their skills and knowledge in drawing and sketching. The course is suitable for both the inexperienced and more experienced, as there is always something new to learn in drawing and sketching.
What will I learn?
You will be introduced to a wide range of drawing and sketching techniques. You will learn about layout and composition, creating focal points, line and tone drawing, colour, texture, and form. You will use a wide range of drawing media such as pencil, pen, charcoal, pastel, and graphite. You will be encouraged to work from a variety of subjects such as landscape, seascape, architecture, portraiture, and still life.
You will be introduced to the drawing and sketching of other artists, in order to further your understanding of contextual references and to inspire your own artworks.

What will the course lead on to?
The course can lead onto the Next Steps Drawing and Sketching course. We also deliver a range of accredited courses in art and design, which may offer suitable progression for the next academic year.
Are there any links with industry and university?
Drawing and sketching is a fundamental skill in all aspects of the arts, including fine art, architecture, illustration, animation, graphic design, fashion design and product design. Artworks created on this course can contribute to your own portfolio for use in interviews situations within the creative industries.
