What is the course about?
This hands-on part-time adult course introduces you to the rewarding discipline of life drawing. You’ll learn how to draw from direct observation, developing a strong foundation in capturing the human form through a variety of poses and using a range of drawing materials and techniques.
Whether you’re new to art or looking to improve your sketching skills, this course offers a creative and structured approach to learning the fundamentals of life drawing.

Through tutor-led demonstrations and practical drawing sessions, you will learn how to:
- Safely set up and use an easel
- Draw figures in simple standing, seated, and reclining poses
- Use materials to accurately capture scale, proportion, and form
- Integrate background elements into your compositions
- Apply shadows and understand perspective
- Capture hands, feet, and facial features through life study
This part-time adult course is ideal for anyone looking to build a strong foundation in life drawing.
What will the course lead on to?
Upon completion, you can progress to the Next Steps Life Drawing course to continue developing your drawing skills.

Are there any links with industry and university?
You will develop a range of knowledge and skills to better prepare you for future employment. The ability to draw is a fundamental skill, applicable for all creative industries, from architecture and product design, through to illustration, fashion and fine art. The skills developed on this course will be transferable to all forms of drawing and design.
