Trips and visits
You will have the opportunity to visit local and national hospitality businesses, learning from industry experts and celebrated chefs. You will also be able to visit fresh produce suppliers such as butchers, fishmongers and vegetable suppliers to inform your studies and knowledge of the industry.
Each year, students also have the chance to put their skills to the test by entering the International Wine & Food Society’s young chef competition, as well as a number of other competitions such as Torque D’Or and the Association Culinaire Francaise.
Industry links
We are proud to work with some incredible people in the industry, offering you unique opportunities to meet and learn from renowned chefs who own some of the best restaurants in the northwest. These include Gary Usher from Elite Bistros, Michelin-star chef Aiden Byrne, former owner of The Church Green gastropub, Exose Grant an executive chef at Ikaro Manchester. We also have a strong link with The Chefs Patisserie Company; a high-profile luxury patisserie, savouries and desserts company that regularly delivers exclusive workshops and masterclasses.
We regularly welcome back former Warrington & Vale Royal College students Jack Vance and Russell Wood, who return to deliver masterclasses and workshops, as well as hosting the college's alumni dinner and judging our Junior MasterChef competitions. Both of these young chefs have seen their careers take off since leaving college, working in multiple award-winning restaurants, including Lymm's renowned The Church Green.
As well as hosting numerous services at our award-winning restaurant, Buckley’s, students also complete a minimum of 35 hours of industry placement and past students have undertaken these valuable placements with the likes of The French at the Midland Hotel, Dine Contract Catering, Greene King, and the Village Hotel. In addition to the industry-relevant skills developed throughout your industry placements, you will also develop vital employability skills including communication, customer service, enthusiasm, motivation, problem-solving and attention to detail. This ensures that you are fully prepared to succeed in the workplace when you leave us.
