What are the entry requirements?
It is expected that students will:
- Have previously achieved a Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification or similar and have practical experience. The course is not suitable for learners with limited experience in the electrotechnical sector, or limited testing and inspection experience.
- Complete an initial assessment that confirms that they have the appropriate skills, knowledge, and experience needed to complete the course before enrolment.
- Students must be aged 19 or over.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
Before the start of the course, you must purchase the below items, for an approximate cost of £170:
- BS 7671:2018 + Amendment 4:2026 (IET Wiring Regulations). This is an essential core textbook required for study and industry use (latest version only).
- IET Guidance Note 3: Inspection & Testing (latest Amendment 4:2026 version). Highly recommended for this qualification, as it supports testing procedures, certification, and exam preparation.
- Non-programmable calculator. This is required for assessment.
Important: All books must be the latest Amendment 4 (2026) versions to ensure alignment with current industry standards and assessment requirements.
