What is the course about?
This short introductory course is aimed at adult students wishing to gain some understanding and some practical experience of bricklaying.
This course has been introduced to allow a complete novice to gain confidence in bricklaying and enable them to progress on to our next Tailored Learning course - “Constructing a Low Level Wall Including a Corner.”
Why should I choose the course?
This short introductory course covers a range of hand-skills and practical tasks in bricklaying to give you the introduction that is needed to progress to additional courses.
What will I learn?
Over the 5 weeks you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to:
• Prepare mortar for bricklaying tasks.
• Spread and lay mortar beds for bricklaying activities.
• Level, plumb and gauge brick courses.
• Construct a 10-brick pyramid.
• Construct a half brick stop end wall.
What will the course lead on to?
On completion of the course, you could consider studying further on our “Constructing a Low Level Wall Including a Corner” course. You may also wish to progress to full certified qualifications in the trade area.
Are there any links with industry and university?
The course is aligned to bricklaying practices and can be the first step towards a career in the construction industry if students wish.

Continuous support from tutors and peers is available as and when required. As an adult student, you will also have access to our online tutorial programme Amplify, as well as the option to speak to our Careers Team.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Please contact Learner Services if you would like to enrol.
Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
Students will need to purchase a pair of steel toe-capped boots to allow for safe working in the workshop environment.
