What is the course about?

This qualification is for those who have completed the Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating and are currently employed or self-employed in the Building Services sector of the construction industry. You must have a qualified plumber working with you to sign off your competence.

The main purpose of this qualification is to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to work effectively as a plumber. It covers various aspects of plumbing and heating systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair.

The course runs over a 12-month period, although it can be completed sooner.

You will attend face-to-face sessions at the Warrington campus as follows:

  • One session focused on the level 2 theoretical unit, 'Understand how to apply environmental protection measures within building services engineering'. This is supported by online resources and assessed via an online multiple-choice exam. Students will be booked to sit the exam when ready.
  • Three additional face-to-face sessions throughout the year to guide and support you in completing your portfolio, with targets set as needed.
  • In addition, you will have five direct workplace observations covering preparations, installations, sound tests, decommissioning, and maintenance activities to complete your NVQ portfolio. A qualified plumber must be present to sign off your competence during these observations.

Please note: If you do not complete the qualification and the five workplace observations within 12 months, additional costs of £100 per workplace observation may apply.
