What is the course about?
As an apprentice, you will learn a variety of skills and knowledge, which will prepare you for full time employment in this area. You will train with an employer to install, maintain and repair electrical systems in industrial, commercial and domestic environments. You will work with a range of different equipment and electrical systems such as fire alarms, heating, cables, fuses, lighting, switchboards and renewable energy technology.
Why should I choose the course?
As an installation electrician apprentice, you will train to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in industrial, commercial, and domestic environments. Gaining experience carrying out a variety of tasks, you will work on the installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of low voltage electrical and electronic devices and appliances. You will work with a range of different equipment and electrical systems such as fire alarms, heating, cables, fuses, lighting, switchboards, and renewable energy technologies.
What will I learn?
Throughout this apprenticeship you will understand and apply a variety of principles, practices and legislation for the termination and connection of conductors, cables and cords in electrical systems. You will learn the practices for the preparation and installation of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment in buildings, structures and the environment. You will also learn about the principles for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings and structures.
How is the apprenticeship delivered?
This qualification is assessed in stages. During your on-programme learning stage your employer and assessor coach will assess your knowledge, competencies, and behaviours. You will develop a work-based portfolio, undertake regular reviews, and attend 20% off the job learning at college.

You will be allocated a designated tutor to guide you through your apprenticeship. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

What are the entry requirements?
Entry requirements for this apprenticeship programme are GCSE grades 9-4, or level 2 functional skills qualifications in English and maths. We will consider those who need to resit either their English or maths qualification, however those that need to resit both will not meet the entry requirements for this apprenticeship programme.
If you are required to resit either English or maths, you will be invited to undertake an initial assessment. If deemed suitable, you must be willing to achieve your level 2 English/maths qualification before the end of the apprenticeship programme as part of your study.
