What is the course about?
This Advanced course is for learners who have attended and completed the Basics and Design & Concepts courses and wish to continue to develop their skills to develop and design floral arrangements. Learners who have previously attended our Advanced Floristry courses are welcome to attend.
Why should I choose the course?
The course will help you develop skills and techniques learnt on the Basics and Design and Concepts courses. With the skills you have learnt, you will be given the confidence to plan, design and make your own floral arrangement.
What will I learn?
During the course you will:
Â
- Develop floristry techniques to enable you to produce a variety of floral designs e.g. Hogarth Curve and Minimalist Ikebana.
- Identify and complete floristry techniques and design principles in each design.
- Discuss floral material used in the designs and how to make the best of your floral material including how to take care of your design.
- Learn how to cost one design to be sold, showing the breakdown of cost to make a profit and include labour charge.
- Look at using sustainable materials and how they can be incorporated in your designs.
Â
You will be informally assessed by the tutor, and you will also self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan.
What will the course lead on to?
The course leads onto further themed short courses such as Spring, Summer, Wedding and Christmas and Flowers from Around the World, depending on which courses are available during the terms in the academic year.
What support is available?
We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
Further information can be located here: College Life
Why should I choose to study the course at Warrington & Vale Royal College?

What are the entry requirements?
Learners must have completed the Basics and Design and Concepts courses or have prior skills and techniques to allow them to attend an advanced course. This course is for adults aged 19 and over.
What are my funding options?
For information on funding contact Learner Services on 01925 494400 or email learner.services@wvr.ac.uk
Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
The college provides the basic flowers and materials to complete your weekly design. You will be required to bring a pair of floristry or household scissors, as well as some foliage each week to enhance your design, and your own containers. Your tutor will advise you of this at the first class.
If you are sensitive to handling flowers or foliage, we recommend you wear gardening or rubber gloves.Â
