What is the course about?
This short 6-week course is aimed as a follow-on skills course for those who have completed the “Constructing a Low Level Wall Including a Corner” course or those with basic ability wanting to further develop their trowel skills.
Why should I choose the course?
This short course further develops a range of hand-skills and practical tasks in bricklaying that builds on your basic pre-existing abilities. You will learn how to construct a low level wall using light weight blocks.
What will I learn?
Over the 6 weeks, you will be develop the skills and knowledge needed to:
• Lay blocks in a simple straight line.
• Use the correct techniques for laying blocks.
• Ensure blocks are level, plumb and aligned.
• Ensure the wall is jointed/pointed for neatness and structural integrity.
• Consolidate all previous knowledge, learning how to construct a cavity wall.
What will the course lead on to?
On completion of the course, you could consider studying at the next level on our “Basics of a Cavity Wall” course. You may also wish to progress to full certified qualifications in the trade area.
Are there any links with industry and university?
The course is aligned to bricklaying practices and can be the first step towards a career in the construction industry if students wish.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
Students will need to purchase a pair of steel toe-capped boots to allow for safe working in the workshop environment.
