What is the course about?

This course is ideal if you would like to follow a career path in bricklaying and already have some base knowledge and experience. Building on the skills you will have developed throughout your level 1 studies, this course leads you closer to beginning a career as a professional tradesperson and provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the construction industry.

Why should I choose the course?

This course is ideal if you would like to follow a career path in the construction industry as a bricklayer. It builds on the skills you developed at level 1 and gets you closer to beginning a career as a professional bricklayer. This course will provide you with a clear understanding of what makes a good tradesperson within the construction industry.

What will I learn?

This one-year course further develops your practical and theoretical skills, covering more advanced techniques such as isolated and attached piers, masonry cladding, interpreting technical drawings and decorative brickwork. You will be assessed through a range of methods including practical assessments, job-related tests and online computer exams. All of this is delivered in our specialist construction workshops, and you will also have access to well-equipped classrooms and computer facilities.

*Irrespective of your GCSE results, all students will start at level 1 and learn basic skills before progressing through the course levels.

What will the course lead on to?

After successfully completing this course, you will have the skills and knowledge to progress on to the Level 3 Brickwork, where you will refine your skills as a more experienced bricklayer. Alternatively, you may wish to pursue an apprenticeship and gain a qualification whilst earning a wage. The construction industry is thriving, and with hard work and relevant experience you could soon be working your way up the career ladder to become a construction site supervisor or even a surveyor. With a government target of 300,000 new homes to be built per year, the earning potential in this industry is incredible

Are there any links with industry and university?

This course benefits from excellent employer links with a number of local and national companies such as Vinci Construction, David Wilson Homes, Persimmon Homes, Taylor Wimpey, and Cruden Construction. We invite these companies into the college to deliver fascinating guest lectures and demonstrations of new technology and equipment, enabling you to stay up to date and ahead of the game when you begin your career.

What support is available?

You will be allocated a progress coach who will provide you with support to help you succeed on your study programme and progress on to your chosen career or progression path. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
