In the past, Lara has always worked in physically demanding jobs until, unfortunately, a spinal injury limited her options for employment. Currently, she is unemployed, but she aspires to pursue a desk-based position where she can make a difference to people’s lives. Lara chose to study her Access to HE course at our college because she feels comfortable here, knowing from her previous experience that we offer excellent student support and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. She says: "I face minimal challenges navigating the campus. Additionally, the tutors and other supportive staff members are exceptional."
Balancing her own education with the responsibility of raising four children has been a significant challenge for Lara. However, she mentions that her Access to HE course fits perfectly into her schedule, as her children attend school at the same time she attends her classes. So far, Lara has covered topics such as euthanasia, received an introduction to criminology and mental health, and completed modules to enhance her academic writing and interview skills in preparation for university.
Upon completing her degree, Lara's ultimate goal is to become a social worker. She expresses immense gratitude for the opportunities that the Access to HE course has provided, stating that it serves as the ideal pathway for her to pursue her dream career.
