Chris Tyrrell discusses his Level 3 Data Technician Apprenticeship at Warrington & Vale Royal College in partnership with Halton Housing

Level 3 Data Technician Apprentice, Chris Tyrell, had always been interested in a career involving data, but was unsure on how to achieve this. After researching local college's that offered courses in the industry, he found the Level 3 Data Technician Apprenticeship at Warrington & Vale Royal

Chris decided to look into the apprenticeship route so that he could gain valuable work experience whilst studying for his qualification. In September 2024, he found the Data Technician Apprenticeship offered at Halton Housing with Warrington & Vale Royal College, and saw this as the perfect opportunity to develop his skills within the industry. Chris currently works as part of the asset data team at Halton Housing, looking into the regulations and guidelines around safe housing.

Chris praised the flexibility of the apprenticeship route, as he is able to study around his work commitments, with his employer accommodating time each week to completing his college work. He has really enjoyed applying the knowledge from his college course to his job at Halton Housing and feels this is helping him to advance in his career. Chris says his apprenticeship is allowing him to constantly learn and develop.

"The college is very modern and advanced, and knowing my tutor specialises in this industry gives me confidence that I am gaining all of the knowledge I need. My tutor is fantastic, taking the time to ensure I full understand complex topics and he is always there to offer support whenever I need it."

When asked what advice he'd give to those interested in apprenticeships, Chris said "The advice I’d give to anyone interested in apprenticeships is try your best and don’t be afraid to ask questions. You are here to learn, so make sure to make the most of it!”
