Meet Sarah, a dedicated teacher learning sign language for her students

As a dedicated teacher working with profoundly Deaf young adults, Sarah enrolled on the Level 1 British Sign Language (BSL) course at Warrington & Vale Royal College to develop her communication skills and better support her students. She saw this course as an opportunity to enhance inclusivity in her classroom and build stronger connections within the Deaf community.

Sarah chose Warrington & Vale Royal College because it was the only college in her area offering this specialist course, and she was excited to attend alongside a friend, making the experience both educational and social.

Now several weeks into the course, Sarah has already learned a wide range of signs, including colours, animals, locations, and more. Reflecting on her experience so far, she shared: "It’s just been brilliant!"

Looking ahead, Sarah hopes to continue expanding her BSL skills to create a more inclusive learning environment and ensure that every student feels valued and understood. Her journey is a perfect example of how learning a new skill can make a meaningful difference—both professionally and personally.
