Frances Veltkamp is thriving on her HNC Visual Arts course

Meet Frances Veltkamp, HNC Art & Design: Visual Arts student, who has recently taken the time to speak with us about her time at Warrington & Vale Royal College so far and what she plans to do in the future after gaining her HNC qualification.

Frances Veltkamp Resized

Frances chose to study HNC Visual Arts here as it is close to home and she can do a part-time course as the tutorial hours fit well around her working hours, allowing her to complete this course around her existing commitments.

When we asked Frances about the best aspect of studying at Warrington & Vale Royal College, she said the atmosphere is excellent, with the 16–18-year-olds around being eager to learn something new. She also stated that the facilities are brilliant: “The new Advanced Creative & Digital Skills (ACDS) Centre is a brilliant place to learn; as art students, we have almost every material we need to create our best work. We have had many guest speakers in lessons too, which I feel is the best way to get insight into the industry.” TATE, one of our brilliant ACDS Centre partners, came in to speak with their class about their roles and what day-to-day life looks like in the industry, which Frances found particularly interesting.

“From this course, I have learnt so much, from learning how to manage a live project brief to learn how to use my digital skills to make the most out of the preparation of my artwork. My tutor, Sarah, gives me regular 1:1 feedback and prompts discussions whilst working, creating a great classroom atmosphere.”

After completing this qualification, Frances hopes to progress on studying a Bachelor of Arts at university. She says that this course is excellent as she can go straight into her second year of university; by doing this also saves her money as studying a higher education course here costs less than at a university. We want to wish Frances the best of luck for the future!
