Hannah, an aspiring paramedic, is now one step closer to her dream career thanks to the Access to Higher Education course at Warrington & Vale Royal College.

Hannah, an aspiring paramedic, is now one step closer to her dream career thanks to the Access to Higher Education course at Warrington & Vale Royal College.
After working as a successful self-employed nail technician, Hannah decided it was time to follow her passion for helping others and make a real difference in people’s lives.
She says: “I’ve always been told I’m caring and empathetic, and I knew I wanted to do something more rewarding. When I started looking into careers in the NHS, becoming a paramedic really stood out to me - it felt exciting, different, and meaningful.”
Hannah has gained a wide range of knowledge on the Access course, including biology, chemistry, psychology, and academic writing. She particularly enjoyed the chemistry lessons, saying: “I struggled with chemistry in school, but the way the tutors taught it here just made it click — especially with the practical experiments we did in the lab!”
The support from her tutors has made a huge impact on Hannah’s journey. She says: “They’ve been amazing - always available to help, whether it’s in class, over email, or through 1-1 support. They really do listen and want the best for you.”
In addition to academic support, Hannah found the wider college community to be incredibly helpful. She received a bursary for travel costs, and found the bursary, safeguarding, and wellbeing teams to be friendly, approachable, and genuinely caring - making her feel heard and supported during her time at the college.
Hannah has now secured a place at Liverpool John Moores University to study Paramedic Science, and will be fully qualified in just three years. She says she feels fully prepared for the next step, thanks to the knowledge and confidence she’s gained on the course.
We wish Hannah the very best of luck on her journey to becoming a paramedic - we have no doubt she will go far in her chosen career!
