What is the course about?
This course is designed for adults (aged 19 and over) who are interested in learning the art of bread making and exploring a variety of traditional techniques. You’ll be introduced to the world of artisan bread, starting with the selection of raw ingredients and progressing through the steps to create a range of breads from around the globe. These may include soda bread, baguettes, sourdough, rye, focaccia, and flatbreads.
Throughout the course, you will build your knowledge and skills in every stage of the bread-making process — from mixing and kneading to proving and baking — along with insider tips and techniques to help you achieve the perfect bake.
Important information:
- All students must wear fully covered, flat-soled shoes. No heels are allowed.
- Long hair must be tied back, and a hat or cap must be worn, along with an apron.
- All jewellery must be removed while working in the kitchen.

What will I learn?
On this course you will:
- Prepare and bake fresh bread that may include soda, baguettes, sourdough, rye, focaccia, and flat breads
- Use a range of ingredients to create the finished artisan product
- Weigh and measure ingredients accurately
- Plan, prepare and bake breads within an agreed time.
You will be informally assessed by the tutor and you will also self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan at the end of the evening.
