What is the course about?

This course will build upon your current knowledge and boost your digital skills further. The course is designed to enable you to develop basic IT skills which may be needed for work or home. You will further explore Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint and Excel, using specific tools to create more advanced documents, presentations and spreadsheets as well as discuss and use new technologies.

This is an ideal course for anyone who wants to build and develop their digital skills and build confidence in a friendly environment. It builds upon the skills you already possess such as by attending our next steps to essential digital skills course.

What will I learn?

On the course, you will:

  • Creating an online presence for sharing information and files via the creation of a simple webpage (Online Portfolio).
  • Producing high-quality documents for a variety of purposes, integrating elements and data from other applications.
  • Developing Interactive Content with PowerPoint and Creating an auto-starting Kiosk application incorporating videos and audio narration and using animation and transition tools where appropriate.
  • Maintaining and querying database (Datasets) and merging to produce print runs with selected recipients.
  • Discussion of new technologies, found in both the home and the workplace, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing and possibly Generative AI such as ChatGPT.

You will be informally assessed by the tutor, and you will also self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan.

What will the course lead on to?

On completion of this course, you may be offered progression onto another ACL course. Depending on availability.

What support is available?

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?

Attended both the Introduction and Next Steps of this course. No previous qualifications are needed to enrol on this course. Be willing to partake in classroom activities and discussions. Course is for adults 19+.
