What is the course about?

This course introduces you to the fundamentals of using artificial intelligence (AI) tools across a range of everyday settings. You'll gain a solid understanding of how AI can be applied to support your personal or professional needs, with a particular focus on improving and managing your home computer network.

Whether you're a home user seeking better control and efficiency, a parent wanting to restrict inappropriate content, or a small business owner managing a home office network, this course will guide you through practical AI solutions that can help enhance your digital environment.

Why should I choose the course?

This course offers a clear, accessible introduction to AI, making it ideal for those who want to build confidence with new technology. It’s a great opportunity to explore how AI can be used in everyday life, whether for improving digital safety, managing devices more effectively, or supporting tasks at home or in a small business. You'll leave with practical skills that are relevant and immediately useful.

What will I learn?

The course will demonstrate the potential of AI.

You will learn how to:

• Understand what AI is, including its foundations and real-world applications
• Recognise how AI works, exploring key concepts and tools
• Use generative AI and large language models (LLMs) effectively
• Identify ethical considerations, bias, and the importance of responsible AI use
• Engage in hands-on AI projects and explore future trends

The tutor will informally assess you, and you will also self-assess your weekly progress.

What will the course lead on to?

On completion of this course, you could progress on to another of our short courses.
