What is the course about?

If you have completed the Introduction course and have a passion for photography, this course will help you build on your existing skills and knowledge. It’s also ideal if you've recently upgraded to a DSLR or mirrorless camera and want to explore which features will benefit you most.

If you already own a camera, have some prior knowledge of digital photography, and want to move beyond auto settings to get the best out of your equipment, this course is perfect for you.

Why should I choose the course?

This course is perfect if you want to move beyond the basics and gain more control over your photography. Whether you've recently upgraded your camera or are looking to get more out of the one you already have, you'll build confidence using manual settings and other features to improve your images. You'll also have the chance to experiment with different techniques and equipment, develop your own style, and learn how to present your work professionally, all in a supportive and engaging environment.

What will I learn?

The course will help you unlock the full potential of your camera by showing you how to access and make the most of its individual features and settings. Whether you're using a point-and-shoot camera, DSLR, or mirrorless model, you’ll learn how to use the best settings and experiment with other photographic equipment to improve your results.

You will:

• Gain a deeper understanding of photographic terms and how to use photographic equipment and lenses

• Take animal photographs

• Capture HDR images

• Learn how to print and present your pictures, including printer use and basic maintenance

• Work with apertures

• Work with shutter speeds

You will be informally assessed by your tutor and will also self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan.

What will the course lead on to?

After completing this course, you may progress to another short course.

Whether you're looking to upskill, work toward a promotion, explore a pathway to university, or simply meet new people, there’s something for everyone.
