What is the course about?

Would you like to develop your digital photography skills and make the most out of your camera? This course will help you to explore photographic equipment, techniques, and materials and resources, whilst enabling you to confidently use your digital camera and look at more complex photo editing.

Why should I choose the course?

This course is aimed at adult students (19+) who wish to develop and adapt photographic ideas. It is a practical, workshop-based course consisting of face-to-face delivery, allowing you to develop practical skills in using cameras and digital editing.

What will I learn?

This course will introduce you to photographic equipment, digital techniques, and materials and resources, as well as raising your awareness of the photo imaging industry. You will also learn how to develop and adapt photographic ideas. As part of the course, you will create a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your skills and understanding.

This is a certified course, not a leisure course.

The course will be delivered on a blended learning model, with face-to-face teaching, supported by two hours per week of asynchronous independent study using Google Classroom (focussing on research/ reflecting on practical work completed).

What will the course lead on to?

Following successful completion of the course you may be able to progress into employment or on to a HNC Media or Graphics course at Warrington & Vale Royal College.

Are there any links with industry and university?

Techniques and equipment used will be closely aligned to industry working practices in order to fully prepare you for developing as a photographer.

What support is available?

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

Why should I choose to study the course at Warrington & Vale Royal College?

You will be taught by experienced tutors and have the opportunity to learn valuable new skills as well as meet new people with similar interests. You will also have the opportunity to exhibit your work throughout the course to showcase the skills you have developed.

What are the entry requirements?

No formal qualifications are required, however a keen interest in photography is essential. You should also have a basic computer knowledge, as you will be required to remotely use Google Classroom to record your progress throughout the course.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?

You are required to use your own digital camera throughout the course. However, the college can provide some DSLR cameras, if necessary, to use within the classroom.

Additionally, students will be required to have access to a computer in order to be able to produce the written content required for the qualification.
