What is the course about?

Are you ready to take your digital photography skills to the next level? This course will help you get the most out of your camera by exploring photographic equipment, techniques, and materials. You’ll gain confidence using your digital camera and learn more advanced editing skills to enhance your images.

Why should I choose the course?

Designed for adult students aged 19+, this practical, workshop-based course is ideal if you’re looking to develop and refine your photographic ideas. With face-to-face sessions and guided practical work, you'll build both camera and editing skills in a supportive learning environment.

What will I learn?

You’ll be introduced to a range of photographic equipment, digital techniques, and creative processes. The course will also raise your awareness of the photo imaging industry and help you develop your own photographic style. Key areas of learning include:

  • Using photographic equipment confidently
  • Applying digital editing techniques
  • Understanding materials and creative resources
  • Developing and adapting photographic ideas
  • Building a portfolio to showcase your skills and understanding.

The course is delivered through a blended learning model. You'll attend weekly face-to-face sessions and complete around two hours of independent study each week via Google Classroom. Your portfolio will include research, reflections, and evidence of your practical work.

Please note: This is a certified qualification course and not a leisure course.

What will the course lead on to?

After successfully completing the course, you may progress to further study, such as a HNC in Media or Graphics at Warrington & Vale Royal College, or explore employment opportunities in the creative industries. Are there any additional costs associated with the course?

You’ll need your own digital camera to complete the course. The college can provide DSLR cameras for use during lessons if required.
You’ll also need access to a computer to complete the written elements of your portfolio.
