This short adult course takes you inside the world of cybersecurity at introductory level. You’ll learn the basics to keep your personal digital life safe, whilst gaining insights into the biggest security challenges that companies, governments, and educational institutions face today.

At the end of this part-time course, you’ll have a basic foundational understanding of cybersecurity concepts, including the types of threats that exist and how they can impact individuals and organisations. You’ll also learn how to protect yourself and others, and gain insight into the role cybersecurity plays in IT environments.

Each module consists of a short quiz for you to check your learning progress and a final short exam at the end of the course which will entitle you to a Cisco Course Introduction to Cybersecurity Badge, as proof of your successful completion of the course. The course consists of approximately 6 hours of learning content, spread over multiple weeks.
What will I learn?
The course includes interactive activities, quizzes, and some short labs to reinforce what you’ve learned before a final exam.
Modules:
1. Introduction to Cybersecurity
You’ll get a clear introduction to the field of cybersecurity — what it means, why it matters, and how it affects you both personally and professionally.
2. Attacks, Concepts and Techniques
The course explains the most common types of cyber threats (like malware, phishing, ransomware) and how attackers exploit vulnerabilities.
3. Protecting your Data and Privacy
You’ll learn practical safety skills, including how to protect personal data, secure your privacy online, and maintain safe behaviour on social media and the internet.
4. Protecting Organisations
The course gives insight into how businesses and institutions defend against cyber-attacks, including basic strategies and practices used for protection.
In addition to learning about the legal and ethical issues involved in cybersecurity, you’ll explore why cybersecurity jobs are in demand and get an overview of potential career paths and opportunities in the industry.
You'll learn a range of skills, including cyber best practices, cybersecurity principles, and the importance of privacy and data confidentiality. You'll also develop an understanding of network vulnerabilities and how to identify and respond to potential threats through effective threat detection.

This course can lead on to further study within the Cisco Cybersecurity career pathway, helping you progress towards a full cybersecurity qualification.
