What is the course about?

This introductory course for adults takes you into the world of cybersecurity. Designed as a short adult course, it introduces you to essential cybersecurity basics that help you protect your own digital life. You’ll also gain insight into the major security challenges faced by companies, governments and educational institutions today.

Why should I choose the course?

Cybersecurity professionals who can protect and defend an organisation’s network are in high demand. This course gives you a solid foundation in key cybersecurity concepts, helping you understand common threats, how to protect yourself and others, and the role cybersecurity plays in modern IT environments.

Many students use this short adult course as a starting point before progressing to more in‑depth study, such as Cybersecurity Essentials, Endpoint Security or Network Defence.

Each module includes a short quiz to help you check your progress, and the course finishes with a final short exam. When you complete it, you will earn a Cisco Introduction to Cybersecurity Badge as proof of your achievement.
The course includes around 6 hours of learning, delivered over multiple weeks.

What will I learn?

The course includes interactive activities, quizzes, and some short labs to reinforce what you’ve learned before a final exam.

Modules:

1. Introduction to Cybersecurity

You’ll get a clear introduction to the field of cybersecurity — what it means, why it matters, and how it affects you both personally and professionally.

2. Attacks, Concepts and Techniques

The course explains the most common types of cyber threats (like malware, phishing, ransomware) and how attackers exploit vulnerabilities.

3. Protecting your Data and Privacy

You’ll learn practical safety skills, including how to protect personal data, secure your privacy online, and maintain safe behaviour on social media and the internet.

4. Protecting Organizations

The course gives insight into how businesses and institutions defend against cyber-attacks, including basic strategies and practices used for protection.

5. Will Your Future Be in cybersecurity?

In addition to learning about the Legal and ethical issues involved in cybersecurity. You’ll explore why cybersecurity jobs are in demand and get an overview of potential career paths and opportunities in the industry.

This course prepares you to continue along the Cisco Cybersecurity career pathway and progress toward a full cybersecurity qualification.
