What will I learn?
On this live online coaching and mentoring training course, you will gain a clear understanding of what it takes to be an effective coach and mentor. You will explore how to engage others in learning and development, apply recognised coaching models, and use practical tools and techniques to support individuals.
The course includes opportunities to practise your skills through supervised coaching and mentoring sessions, allowing you to reflect on and improve your performance.
Live sessions run fortnightly between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, supported by tutorials and independent blended learning activities of approximately 2–3 hours between sessions.
The five mandatory units you will undertake are:
- Understanding Mentoring
- Mentoring Practice
- Engage Others in the Learning and Development Process
- Preparing for the Coaching Role
- Coaching Skills

What are the entry requirements?
The approved age range for this qualification is 18+. Gateway have not set any other entry requirement for the qualification, however students must ensure that they can meet the assessment demands of the qualification which requires access to people to engage with for coaching and mentoring and evidence this within their portfolio of evidence along with their other knowledge work.
Whilst there are no formal entry requirements to study on this course, however a course discussion is required to ensure you are suitable to study at this level and Gateway recommend that learners should be proficient in the use of the English Language and must be occupationally competent in the vocational area in which they are providing coaching and mentoring.
You will be required to undertake an initial assessment at the beginning of the programme.
Parts of the course are delivered online through Google Classroom/Meets and an e-portfolio, therefore a PC with internet access is required for participation
