What is the course about?
This programme will provide students with the required knowledge, skills and understanding in order to effectively coach and mentor others within an organisational context. The taught sessions will help to develop learners to develop their coaching and mentoring knowledge, skills and behaviours in order to enhance their ability and confidence in coaching and mentoring. The qualifications are ideal for those coaching and mentoring at management level. They also offer opportunity for individuals who wish to move into a developmental role or start a career as a freelance coach or mentor.
There is a growing demand in the workplace for qualified coaches and mentors (which includes one to one coaching, team coaching and leadership coaching) and employers wanting to grow their coaching culture. Benefits to employers who develop their staff as coach mentors will see a growing coaching and mentoring culture emerge and staff equipped with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to perform effectively within their roles, ultimately boosting the skills and competencies within the workforce and organisation.
This course will be delivered online with fortnightly live sessions with the tutor, interactive group work and use of blended learning opportunities within the google classroom.
What will I learn?
You will learn what it takes to be an effective coach mentor, understand how coaching and mentoring works, how to use a recognised coaching and mentoring models, and the tools and techniques to support coaching and mentoring within one’s own organisational context. There will be opportunities to further develop coaching and mentoring skills in practice and carry out supervised coaching and mentoring sessions.
Furthermore, you will learn how to be a reflective practitioner and be able to analyse your own coaching and mentoring performance in order to improve your own effectiveness and ability.
The 3 units you will undertake are:
- 500 -Understanding the Skills, Principles and Practice of Effective Coaching and Mentoring within an Organisational Context
- 501- Undertaking Effective Coaching or Mentoring within an Organisational Context
- 503 - Reviewing Own Ability as a Coach or Mentor within an Organisational Context
What will the course lead on to?
Successful completion of this course allows progression on ILM Level 7 Diploma in Effective Coaching and Mentoring or further ILM Leadership and Management qualifications.

What are the entry requirements?
ILM has not set an entry requirement for the qualification, however centres must ensure that students are in a position to meet the assessment demands of the qualification which requires access to a maximum of 3 coachees or mentees for 18 hours of coaching and mentoring.
