What is the course about?

In this course you will learn about the slightly trickier aspects of writing creatively. The course will cover topics such as using different tenses and perspectives, using figurative language and the importance of word choice. But don’t panic – it's done in a gentle and accessible – and fun – way.

Why should I choose the course?

If you enjoyed the Introduction to Creative Writing course and the Next Steps in Creative Writing, this follows on from those courses. - it’s accessible for a complete beginner and will give you the chance to try out some techniques and share your work with others.

What will I learn?

You will learn about different perspectives and tenses in fiction and get to try a few out. You will learn in an accessible way about metaphors and similes and why they can be useful. The class will choose a couple of genres and we will cover what rules apply to writing within that genre.

You will be informally assessed by the tutor, and you will also self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan.

What will the course lead on to?

Introduction to Novel Writing (for those who are interested in writing a novel)

What support is available?

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
