What is the course about?
This short, non-accredited course is designed for beginners who have completed the Getting Started with Spanish course and are ready to build on their existing knowledge of the language.
As with all language learning, regular practice outside the classroom is important. You’ll receive weekly handouts to support your learning, although no structured homework is set.
Why should I choose the course?
This course focuses on the vocabulary and grammar needed to feel more confident in everyday situations within a Spanish-speaking environment. It builds on your understanding of the language while also introducing aspects of Spanish culture. The course emphasises key speaking skills such as pronunciation, intonation, and confidence, while also supporting the development of writing, reading, and listening through practical techniques and activities.
What will I learn?
During the course, you will:
• Practise speaking in Spanish to express your likes and dislikes and take part in conversations with classmates.
• Listen to spoken Spanish from your tutor and classmates to understand questions and responses related to likes and dislikes.
• Read simple Spanish texts on the topic of likes and dislikes to build your vocabulary and comprehension.
• Write sentences and short paragraphs in Spanish to describe your own preferences.
• Explore cultural differences in likes and dislikes across Spanish-speaking countries.
You will be informally assessed by the tutor, and you will also self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan.
What will the course lead on to?
The non-accredited beginners’ courses begin with Getting Started, followed by Build on Your Spanish, and then Spanish for Everyday Use. If you wish to continue your learning journey, you can move on to Enhancing Your Spanish to the Next Level, which is designed to help you practise speaking, reading, and writing skills developed in the previous three courses.
