What is the course about?
This follow-on course is aimed at those who have completed the Getting Started with Italian and Build on Your Italian courses. As it builds on existing skills, with a focus on Italian grammar and sentence construction, it is important that you have attended and completed both of these courses beforehand.
The course helps you to further develop your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through grammar practice, vocabulary building, and pronunciation work. Key speaking skills such as intonation and confidence will be developed, alongside techniques to support progress in writing, reading, and listening.
As with all language learning, regular practice outside the classroom is essential. You will receive handouts each week, but no formal homework is set.
Why should I choose the course?
The course focuses on developing key speaking skills such as intonation and confidence, while also exploring techniques to support progress in writing, reading, and listening.
What will I learn?
During the course, you will focus on the following areas:
• Speaking: Practising spoken Italian to describe daily routines using reflexive verbs, and engaging in conversations with classmates
• Listening: Listening to classmates and the tutor to understand questions and responses related to daily routines
• Reading: Reading Italian texts about daily routines to build vocabulary and improve comprehension
• Writing: Writing sentences and short paragraphs in Italian to describe daily routines, using reflexive verbs accurately
• Cultural awareness: Learning about cultural differences in daily routines and timekeeping across Italian-speaking countries
You will be informally assessed by the tutor and will also self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan.
What will the course lead on to?
The College offers three short beginner courses to start you on your journey of learning Italian: Getting Started, Build on Your Italian, and Italian for Everyday Use.
As we do not offer accredited courses, students who wish to continue developing their skills can enrol on Enhancing Your Italian to the Next Level, which is designed to give further practice with the material covered in the first three courses.
