What is the course about?
This follow-on Spanish course is designed for students who have successfully completed both the Introduction to Spanish and Next Steps Spanish courses. It is essential that you have completed these earlier stages, as these Spanish classes build on your existing knowledge.
The course focuses on strengthening your understanding of Spanish grammar and developing your ability to construct sentences with greater accuracy and confidence.
You will further develop your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through structured practice of grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
There is a strong emphasis on enhancing speaking skills, including intonation and fluency, as well as building confidence in communication. You will also explore techniques to support your progress in reading, writing, and listening.
As with any language, regular practice outside the classroom is important. You will receive weekly handouts to support your learning, although no formal homework is set.
Why should I choose the course?
Choose this course to boost your confidence in speaking Spanish while improving your pronunciation and fluency. You will also discover effective techniques to support your development in reading, writing, and listening, helping you communicate more naturally in real-life situations.
Perhaps you are looking forward to a holiday in a Spanish-speaking country, or you are thinking about a move. Whatever your motivation, these Spanish classes can help you get there.
What will I learn?
During this Spanish course, you will:
- Learn to describe daily routines, including the use and understanding of reflexive verbs
- Develop the ability to talk about past activities using both the simple past and imperfect tenses
- Describe people and places, using comparatives, superlatives, and correct adjective placement and agreement
- Give commands and understand written instructions, including recipes, through the use of the imperative form.
You will be informally assessed by your tutor throughout the course, and you will also review your progress each week using an individual learning plan.
What will the course lead on to?
The college offers three introductory short courses to help you begin your journey in learning Spanish. While we do not offer accredited courses, you can continue your studies by enrolling on Enhancing Your Spanish to the Next Level, which runs on Wednesday mornings.
This course is designed to consolidate and build on what you have learned in the three beginner courses, giving you the opportunity to practice your skills, further develop your confidence, and work towards an A1 level of proficiency.
