What is the course about?

This follow-on course is designed for students who have completed the Getting Started with Spanish and Build on Your Spanish courses.

It builds on your existing skills with a focus on Spanish grammar and sentence construction. You will develop your reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities through the study and practice of grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. The course emphasises key speaking skills such as intonation and confidence, alongside techniques to support your progress in writing, reading, and listening.

As with all languages, regular practice outside the classroom is essential. You will receive handouts at each session to support your learning, although no structured homework is set.

Why should I choose the course?

You should choose to study this course because it’s the perfect next step to deepen your understanding of Spanish grammar and sentence structure, while strengthening your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. It’s designed to boost your confidence in speaking through focused practice on intonation and pronunciation, and it offers practical techniques to help you progress across all language areas. Plus, with supportive materials provided each week, you can continue to develop your skills at your own pace outside the classroom.

What will I learn?

During the course, you will cover the following content:

• Speaking: You will practice speaking in Spanish to describe your daily routines using reflexive verbs and engage in conversations with your classmates.
• Listening: You will listen to your classmates and tutor to understand questions and responses related to daily routines in Spanish.
• Reading: You will read Spanish texts about daily routines to expand your vocabulary and deepen your understanding of the topic.
• Writing: You will write sentences and short paragraphs in Spanish to describe your daily routines and correctly use reflexive verbs.
• Cultural awareness: You will explore cultural differences in routines and time-related customs across Spanish-speaking countries.

You will be informally assessed by the tutor and will also self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan.
