What is the course about?
Searching for ‘Spanish courses near me?’ Look no further! This short, non-accredited course is ideal for complete beginners looking to take their first steps in learning Spanish. You will be introduced to the basics of the language, including greetings, the alphabet, numbers, and telling the time – all to help you communicate in everyday situations.
To get the most out of your learning journey, it is recommended that you start with this introductory course before completing any of our other options. It will give you a solid foundation in essential grammar, supporting your progression onto further Spanish courses available at the college.
As with any language, regular practice is key. While there is no formal homework set, you will receive weekly handouts in class to help you practice and build your confidence outside the classroom.
Why should I choose the course?
This beginner Spanish course is perfect if you’re planning a holiday to Spain or other Spanish-speaking country, considering moving abroad, or you just want to start learning the language. It will equip you with the essential practical skills to help you communicate confidently in everyday situations, and truly make the most out of your experiences abroad.
What will I learn?
During this Spanish course for beginners, you will:
• Learn how to introduce yourself in Spanish and develop an understanding of the sounds and pronunciation patterns of the Spanish alphabet
• Communicate using basic phrases and vocabulary, including ordering food and drinks in a restaurant, and expressing likes and dislikes
• Recognise the names of different types of shops and use key vocabulary related to buying and paying for items
• Ask for and give directions, using essential language linked to places and landmarks in a city
• Gain an introduction to Spanish verb conjugation in the present tense
You will be informally assessed by your tutor throughout the course, and you will also have the opportunity to reflect on your progress each week using an individual learning plan.
What will the course lead on to?
This beginner course provides a clear progression route at the college, allowing you to continue your learning journey with our Next Steps Spanish course, followed by Developing Your Spanish. Once you have completed all three of these introductory courses, you may wish to further enhance your language skills by enrolling on our Enhanced Spanish class.
