What is the course about?

This short course helps parents and carers build an understanding of how to support young children with additional needs (SEND) during the early years. Designed for families with children under 5, it offers reassurance and insight as part of a series of supportive sessions focused on helping parents and carers feel informed, confident, and supported at home.

Taught at Winsford Adult College, this course forms part of a wider under 5s parent programme, delivered in a supportive and non-judgemental environment to help build confidence and strengthen parenting skills.

Why should I choose the course?

This course is ideal for parents and carers who want to better understand how to support a child with additional needs (SEND) in the early years.

It helps build confidence through practical, easy‑to‑understand guidance that can be applied at home, empowering you to support your child’s development with greater awareness, understanding, and reassurance.

What will I learn?

On this supportive course, you will learn:

  • What SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) means in the early years
  • How to recognise possible early signs that a child may need additional support
  • Where and how to access support, advice, and services for your child.

Sessions are delivered in a relaxed, supportive environment.

What will the course lead on to?

This course will help parents and carers build greater confidence supporting additional needs in the early years. By understanding what SEND is, recognising early signs, and knowing where to seek support, you’ll feel better equipped to advocate for your child and support their development at home.

The knowledge gained also helps prepare you to engage confidently with early years settings and access further support if/when needed.

Why should I choose to study the course at Warrington & Vale Royal College?

These courses are delivered by experienced early years professionals in a warm, friendly, and supportive setting. You’ll be made to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing experiences, and learning at your own pace.

With a strong focus on practical guidance, we help parents and carers feel confident applying what they’ve learned at home, so you can support your child with assurance and peace of mind.
