What is the course about?

This course has been developed for those who are working with children and infants. It will be of particular interest to teachers, childminders, crèche assistants, playgroup personnel

and anyone else who has a responsibility for their welfare whilst in your care. The purpose of the qualification is for the learner to attain the knowledge and practical competence

required to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations.

Why should I choose the course?

This two-day qualification fulfils the requirements for first aid training detailed in the Department for Education’s statutory framework for the

Early Years Foundation Stage.

What will I learn?

Range of subjects is covered including:-

    • Role of the Paediatric First Aider
    • Seizure
    • Diabetic emergencies
    • Primary survey
    • Choking
    • Asthma
    • Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED)
    • Minor injuries
    • Meningitis
    • Wounds, bleeding and shock
    • Recovery position
    • Febrile convulsions
    • Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis
    • Fractures
    • Extreme cold and heat
    • Head, neck and back injuries
    • Foreign bodies
    • Electrical incidents

What will the course lead on to?

This qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is recommended that you attend annual refresher training.

You will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

Are there any links with industry and university?

As part of the Health and Social Care Academy we have valuable industry links within the community and with universities. These links provide opportunities to go out on industry placement to further develop your skills should you choose to complete further qualifications with us.

What support is available?

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
