What is the course about?

This assessment and quality assurance qualification is suitable for people working in, or looking to enter roles in, assessment of students.

Why should I choose the course?

If you are currently working in a role which involves assessing others, or would like to secure employment in this area, this qualification will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need.

What will I learn?

The course is designed for practitioners who assess knowledge and/or skills in vocationally related subject areas using the following assessment methods: assessments in simulated environments, skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and RPL.

This may take place in training workshops, classrooms, or other learning environments. The training is delivered across two units:

  • Unit 301: Understanding the principles and practices of assessment (three credits)
  • Unit 302: Assess occupational compentence in the work environment (3 credits)
  • Unit 303: Assess vocational skills, knowledge, and understanding (six credits)

The qualification can be structured to meet your individual needs and will be assessed in your workplace, as well as at college. The course duration is between six and nine months, and is assessed by assignment and written questions. You will also be observed and assessed by your course tutor within your workplace. You will also undertake a professional discussion and complete a portfolio of evidence. You will also be required to attend one-to-one tutorials with your tutor.

What will the course lead on to?

After completing this course, you could progress on to the Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice award to expand your skills and knowledge further.

Are there any links with industry and university?

The assessment planning and observations may be carried out in a realistic working environment, and you must be able to carry out assessments of vocational skills, knowledge, and understanding.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
