What is the course about?

This assessment qualification is designed for people working in, or looking to enter roles in assessment of learners. They are open to people carrying out assessments in most learning environments which include FE, Adult Continuing Learning, Employers and Third Sector. They are designed for anyone assessing in all occupational sectors which includes accredited learning and non accredited learning.

Each course will consist of 6 underpinning knowledge sessions for unit 301, followed by workshops and tutorials and assessments for unit 303.

The qualification can be structured to meet your individual needs and will be assessed in your workplace, as well as at college; through Assignment, short answer questions, Observation and professional discussion to support your portfolio building.

The course duration is between 6 and 12 months, and is assessed by assignment and written questions and you will also be observed and assessed by the TAQA tutor within your workplace on at least 2 occasions. You will be required to attend 1:1 tutorials with your tutor.

If you are currently working in a role which involves assessing others, or would like to secure employment in this area, this qualification will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need.

What will I learn?

The course is designed for practitioners who assess knowledge and/or skills in vocationally-related subject areas who are able to demonstrate the use the following assessment methods in simulated environments; skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and RPL.

Unit 301 - This is a knowledge only unit which is for those who need to have a knowledge and understanding about assessment processes but are not currently practising (e.g. aspiring assessors or quality managers). 3 credits.

Unit 303 - This practical based unit is for those who are assessing achievement in vocationally related situations (e.g. classrooms or workshops) and use the following methods; assessments in simulated environments, skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and RPL. 6 credits.

What will the course lead on to?

After completing this course, you could progress on to the Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice award to expand your skills and knowledge further.

Are there any links with industry and university?

The assessment planning and observations may be carried out in a realistic working environment and you must be able to carry out assessments of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

What are the entry requirements?

In order to undertake the practical unit, you will need access to two learners to work with for the vocational unit (303). You will also need a countersigning assessor/mentor whilst you are in training and access to the quality assurer for the programme you are working on. This can be for any accredited or non-accredited qualification. However, a robust quality assurance system should be in place if using standard operating procedures within an organisation, as the quality assurer will need to be involved in the process.
