What is the course about?
The City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET qualification) is an introductory qualification designed for adults who are new to teaching or training in the further education and skills sector. This adult teaching course is not a full teaching qualification but provides a strong foundation in key areas such as understanding the roles and responsibilities of a teacher, planning and delivering inclusive sessions, and using basic assessment methods.
It is ideal for those looking to start a teaching training course or those already in a training role who want to develop their skills further.
Â
Why should I choose the course?
This part-time teaching course is a short, flexible qualification designed for adults preparing to enter the lifelong learning sector. Whether you are already delivering training in your current role or looking to move into further education, this part-time training course provides a practical introduction.
As one of the most recognised education courses for adults, the AET teaching qualification is often the first step into teaching, before progressing onto higher-level qualifications such as the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
The course is delivered as a blended programme, with some online learning for flexibility. However, attendance at the Warrington campus is required to complete your in-person microteach assessments.
Please consider this before enrolling.
What will I learn?
If you're interested in starting a career in teaching in further education, this course is the perfect first step. You’ll learn from experienced professionals who will introduce you to the core skills and knowledge required to become an effective and confident FE teacher or trainer.
This qualification covers key areas of teaching and training, including:
- Unit 301 – Roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
- Unit 302 – Inclusive teaching and learning approaches
- Unit 305 – Understanding assessment in education and training
Assessment is through a combination of practical and theoretical assignments, including a 20-minute microteach session, which is an essential part of the course. This must be completed in-person.
What will the course lead on to?
After successfully completing this course, you’ll be able to progress to the Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training or Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (FE and Skills) - subject to meeting the required entry criteria. These qualifications will further enhance your skills and are suited to those pursuing formal teaching roles.
