What is the course about?

This exciting practical course will build upon your knowledge and lead you towards a career within this thriving industry. Specialising in light vehicles, this one-year course is designed to build upon your knowledge and give you the skills required by vehicle maintenance employers. You will learn how to maintain and repair the exhaust system, tyres, suspension, and battery system. You will learn in our state-of-the-art workshop.

It is also an opportunity for those wishing to gain some knowledge of vehicle repairs and maintenance

Many of our courses are run by The Institute of the Motor Industry, meaning you will gain all the high-level knowledge you need to carry out vehicle maintenance.

What will I learn?

This wide-ranging course will cover a wide range of topics. As well as a key focus on health & safety procedures, modules covered will include removing, repairing, and refitting tyres, removing, and refitting exhaust systems, diagnosing faults with suspension and battery charging systems.

What will the course lead on to?

Embarking on a career in this sector could see you working on the latest car designs or even in the world of racing cars. Upon completion of this course, you can progress on to our full time Level 2 Motor Vehicle Maintenance course. This will enable you to further increase your theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of light vehicle maintenance and repair. Alternatively, you could secure an apprenticeship or progress into employment in a relevant job role such as a technician.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?

A good understanding of maths and English would be desirable, being able to use a laptop for your assessment work is essential. Some practical experience would be an advantage or completion of the Level 1 course prior to progressing onto level 2.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?

You will have to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes polo shirts, cargo pants, and steel toe cap boots. This will be part of your daily uniform and will be worn throughout your time at college.
