What is the course about?

Take your vehicle maintenance skills to the next level with this hands-on, 6-week course designed for those who have completed the Introduction to Motor Vehicle course or already have basic automotive knowledge. You'll build confidence and competence as you learn essential pre-MOT checks, how to safely change brake pads, and master tyre changing and balancing techniques. Perfect for hobbyists, aspiring mechanics, or anyone looking to save money and time on car maintenance.

What will I learn?

Over the 6 weeks, you will develop skills and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Refreshing and building on your existing motor vehicle maintenance skills
  • Understanding what is inspected during an MOT test
  • Identifying and replacing worn brake pads
  • Performing puncture repairs
  • Understanding tyre construction
  • Removing and refitting tyres.

What will the course lead on to?

After completing this course, you’ll be well prepared to take the next step in your learning journey. You could choose to build on your skills with a follow-on course such as servicing. Alternatively, you may wish to progress to an accredited qualification in motor vehicle maintenance, opening the door to further training or potential employment in the industry.

There are no specific entry requirements, however a basic understanding of English and Maths will be required along with the desire to learn in a practical environment.
