What is the course about?

This counselling course is ideal for students who wish to develop an understanding of counselling theory and a range of counselling skills. If you have always considered a career in counselling, this course will help you take the first step towards securing your dream job role. Throughout this course you will cover both theory and practical skills in a highly supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Why should I choose the course?

The course is fully accredited and designed to provide you with an introduction to a career in counselling. If you are looking to develop your skills and eventually become a professional counselling practitioner, this is a great starting point.

What will I learn?

The course involves experiential elements and learning that may involve some personal disclosure and associated personal development activities.

You will complete 11 weeks on campus where you will work on practical counselling skills and develop your self-reflective skills in group discussions and small group tasks, all of which are tutor led. You will learn the basic elements of the person-centred approach as well as receiving an introduction to other modalities.

The course aims to develop your understanding of what counselling is and how it differs from other helping relationships. The course will help you to learn more about yourself and develop your listening skills when working with others.

This course requires you to work through two workbooks and complete written tasks. You could be studying using either physical workbooks or an online learning portal. Your tutors will explain this further at the beginning of the course.

In addition, you will also complete a distance learning course: Introduction to Mental Health Awareness. This is free of charge and will enhance and support your qualification.

What will the course lead on to?

Successful completion of this course will allow you to apply for the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies here at Warrington & Vale Royal College.
