What is the course about?
The ESOL Level 1 Bridging Course is a supportive ESOL course designed to help you practise and improve your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills as you work towards developing your skills to Level 1.
Why should I choose the course?
This ESOL course is ideal if you are not yet ready to start an accredited Level 1 ESOL course but want to build the skills and confidence to get there. This ESOL class provides a relaxed and supportive learning environment where you can develop your English at your own pace.
On this ESOL course, you will have time to practice all your skills, improve your accuracy, and fill any gaps in your knowledge, helping you strengthen your foundation in English. By the end of the course, you will feel more confident, capable, and prepared to progress successfully onto an accredited ESOL course.
What will I learn?
This ESOL course will help you to:
- Speak clearly in conversations and discussions, express your opinions and give reasons with confidence, and use present, past, and future tenses more accurately.
- Develop your skills to manage real-life situations where you need to give information and express your ideas and opinions.
In the ESOL class, you will improve your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, while also building your independent study skills and communication confidence to support your progression to Level 1.
What will the course lead on to?
After completing this ESOL course, you may progress to:
- Accredited ESOL Level 1 qualifications.
- Better opportunities in employment and further education
- Confidence to use English independently in daily life and work

What are the entry requirements?
This ESOL course is suitable for adult learners working at Entry 3 who want to progress to Level 1 but are not yet ready or don’t want to take an accredited course. What are my funding options?
The course is free to students in receipt of a relevant benefit, on a low income, or unemployed and in receipt of JSA. Our Learner Services Team can discuss this with you when you come in to enrol.
