What is the course about?
The goal of the ESOL Conversation for Confidence course is to develop fluency, build vocabulary, and gain confidence to use English in real-life situations. The lessons will focus on practical communication, active listening, and speaking without fear of making mistakes.

What will I learn?
On the ESOL Conversation for Confidence course, you will:
Practice speaking
You will practice speaking in a safe, friendly environment – mistakes are ok, what matters is trying and improving. You’ll feel more comfortable using English in real life.
Improve listening
You will practice real conversations, learn how to share your ideas, and understand different accents.
Learn useful vocabulary
You will focus on everyday topics like shopping, travel, work, and health.
Get ready for real life situations
You will practice conversations that you might have at work, at college, or in your local community.
Meet other students
You can make friends and learn from other students who are also learning English.
Learn in a supportive environment
Lessons are fun with activities, games, and group tasks. Teachers are trained to help you feel comfortable and to enable you to succeed.
What will the course lead on to?
On completion of this course, you can progress to the next level of ESOL study, either by joining another ESOL community class or joining an ESOL accredited (exam) course at the college.
You can also join other college courses once you have achieved the required level of English language to meet the entry requirements.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if it is required and a Wellbeing Team that are on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no entry requirements for the course, but you will sit an initial assessment to help your tutor decide the right level of study for you.
ACL ESOL courses are open to anyone over the age of 19 plus who wants to learn English that speaks another language as their main language.
What are my funding options?
ESOL courses are free to students in receipt of a relevant benefit, on a low income, or unemployed and in receipt of JSA.
Our Learner Services Team can discuss this with you when you come in to enrol.
Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
There are no additional costs associated with the ESOL Conversation for Confidence course.
