You will get the chance to visit the Pro Hair Live exhibition in Manchester, to learn about the latest developments and exciting products from top suppliers. Students can take part in the AHT Competition at Winter Gardens in Blackpool and the World Skills competition. Previous students have also been to Crete and Barcelona on team building trips. Students can also visit Professional Beauty North, a leading beauty, spa and hair trade show, where exhibitors showcase all the latest developments in these industries. You will learn from industry experts via live demonstrations, gaining valuable knowledge in skincare, advanced treatments, specialist equipment, wellness, nails, tanning and much more. Our students also attend Lush training days, demonstrations at The Park Royal Hotel and experience demonstrations of LED light-therapy facials.
We have a brilliant range of industry connections, from small local salons to national hotel chains and well-established product suppliers in the industry. We also maintain strong links with Steiner Cruise Liners, so you get to learn about careers in the cruises sector. Every year hairdressing professionals and guest speakers visit the college – including people from leading brands such as Wella – whose technicians provide specialist training on the course. You may also get the chance to study with the respected Wella Academy. We also work with big brands such as Dermalogica, Ellisons and Silhouette, who send guest speakers to talk to our students. Dermalogica also support two chosen students every year with a year’s free training to become a Dermalogica expert, plus £100s worth of free products.
Past students who now own or work in established salons are often another source of brilliant work placements for you. You have the option to take various short courses and masterclasses to improve employability skills. Students even help to decide what is taught, to keep up with fast-moving trends. For example, due to the demand in hair and make-up for festivals, past students have completed beauty courses such as festival make-up and body art.
We support students to find a work placement, giving them the opportunity to work for a real employer. Previous students have gained experience at The Park Royal Hotel, Harmony Beauty Salon, Bride Be Lovely, Spa Beautiful and The Village Hotel.
