This one-year course is a fantastic introduction to the exciting world of hairdressing and will help you to begin to build the essential skills, knowledge and behaviours to work successfully in the hair industry.
Why should I choose the course?
There has never been a better time to enter the bustling hair, beauty, and media make-up industry. HABIA states the industry size and turnover annually in this sector is £6.2 billion, employing nearly a quarter of a million people. As one of the biggest growing industries in Cheshire currently, there are plenty of opportunities to earn high wages. Learning on your course will take place in our state-of-the-art salon, The Academy, which has fully equipped professional hair salons, indulgent beauty suites, and glamorous media make-up studios. Being immersed in this front-facing salon environment and working on real paying clients will give the opportunity to put your newly developed skills to the test and receive live, honest critique.
What will I learn?
This hands-on, work-based course will provide you with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to progress within the hairdressing, beauty, and media make-up industry.
The modules you will study are continually updated to ensure students are learning about the latest trends, styles and colour inspirations. You can expect to learn a range of practical skills to prepare you for work in a real-life salon, such as shampooing and conditioning, creative styling of women’s hair and using temporary colour. You will focus on developing rapport with customers on reception, displaying retail stock and even competition work.
What will the course lead on to?
After successfully completing this course, you will have the skills and knowledge needed to progress on to the Level 2 Hairdressing course or Level 2 Hair & Media-Make up course.
Are there any links with industry and university?
In order to enhance your learning and knowledge of the wider sector, you will have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers throughout your course, who will come in and talk about their specialist area or their working environment. Past guest speakers have included a range of employers and manufacturers such as Wella, as well as previous students who have progressed with their career and opened their own businesses. We also have strong links with Steiner, a connection which will open your eyes to the exciting opportunity of working in hair or beauty on cruise ships whilst travelling the world.
We will also support you in securing a work placement in a relevant vocational setting, enabling you to gain a taste of a real-life working environment. This could even be your opportunity to impress and secure a part-time job.
What support is available?
