What is the course about?

As part of an apprenticeship, the aim of this unique level 2 qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in early years (0-5 years.) The course is 12 months long, delivered in our Health & Social Care Academy’s specialist early years classrooms one day a week, with the remaining time spent with your employer.

Why should I choose the course?

This qualification is ideal for learners looking to work with children between birth and 5 years, and gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years. Learners do not need to have previous experience or qualifications in working with children to undertake this qualification.

What will I learn?

On your apprenticeship, you will cover a range of interesting modules including: Roles & responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner, health & safety of babies and young children, supporting children’s development, and support the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes.

How is the apprenticeship delivered?

The apprenticeship is delivered over 24 months, and you will be fully supported by the college every step of the way. During your apprenticeship you will attend college one day per week, with the other four days spent with your employer. As an apprentice you will be allocated a tutor and an assessor, who will come out to visit you onsite.

What will the course lead on to?

This qualification allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce.

Learners may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:

  • Nursery Practitioner
  • Classroom Assistant
  • Pre-school Practitioner.

What support is available?

You will be allocated a designated tutor to guide you through your apprenticeship. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.
