What is the course about?

This course is designed for learners who would like to work within the health and social care sector, providing learners with an introduction to key areas relating to current practice.

This qualification aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding across a range of key subject areas in health and social care.   

Why should I choose the course?

This course will be beneficial if you are looking to return to education after a break, lacking confidence in your academic skills, or need to build a foundation for further study on to a level 3 qualification.

You will be taught in a supportive environment, and will be able to refresh your study skills and build confidence in your ability to succeed in a learning environment. You will also be able to complete either a GCSE English or maths qualification, or functional skills equivalent, alongside.

On completion, you can then progress on to our Access to HE qualifications within Allied Health Professions, or Nursing and Midwifery. These pathways will then allow you to progress on to university to study subjects such as paramedic science, nursing and midwifery, occupational therapy, and psychology.

What will I learn?

You will gain knowledge and understanding across a range of key subject areas, including:

• Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care

• Human growth and development through the life span

• Communication

• The role and responsibilities of the health and social care practitioner in relation to safeguarding individuals

What will the course lead on to?

You may be able to progression into a job within the health and social care sector, an apprenticeship, or on to a level 3 qualification, such as Level 3 Diploma Access to Higher Education: Allied Health Professions, or Level 3 Diploma Access to Higher Education: Nursing, Midwifery, & Health Professionals.

Are there any links with industry and university?

We have links with a range of different Higher Education Institutions that visit and come in to see the learners to complete guest talks and mock interviews to build skills in related areas. We also work closely with local industries when developing the courses to ensure the skills developed on the course align with the local industry needs.  

What support is available?

We have a welfare team that are on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need to hold a GCSE Grade 4/C or above in either maths or English Language or equivalent.  

If you wish to progress to one of our level 3 Access to HE courses, you will be required to complete the outstanding maths or English course alongside this course. You will be required to undertake an assessment to determine the level of English/maths course.

If you hold equivalent qualifications to GCSE we strongly advise you to check university entry requirements to confirm they will accept your equivalent qualifications.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
