What is the course about?
A fast-paced English course for learners who wish to improve their skills.
There are 3 components to the qualification: a reading, a writing and a spoken exam. All three must be completed to achieve the qualification. We offer FS levels from Entry level up to and including L2. Your level will be assessed prior to enrolment.
Why should I choose the course?
The course runs over 16 weeks, the aim being to have passed all 3 elements within the academic year, allowing you to move onto the next level or use your qualification much more quickly than the conventional year long course. The course is 3 hours per week face to face. However, due to the fast pace of this course, you will be expected to complete around 1 to 2 hours of work a week at home.
What will I learn?
The course will improve your English reading, writing and speaking and listening skills, allowing you to progress both academically and personally, building confidence in literacy and communication for life, work and further education.
What will the course lead on to?
Successful completion of this course may lead to gaining a place on the next level of Functional Skills or a place on GCSE (depending on level of FS achieved).
Are there any links with industry and university?
Achieving a FS L2 is recognised by most businesses and HE establishments as the equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 (always check with the provider as to the qualifications they require). Other levels of FS offer a good pathway to this.
What support is available?
We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if it is required and a welfare team that are on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
