What is the course about?
English Functional Skills is a fast-paced English course for adults who wish to improve their skills.
There are 3 components to the qualification, including a reading, writing, and spoken exam. All 3 must be completed to achieve the qualification. Your current level of English will be assessed prior to enrolment.
Why should I choose the course?
This 16-week course is designed to help you complete all elements within the academic year, enabling you to progress to the next level or start using your qualification sooner than with a traditional year-long course. You’ll attend 3 hours of face-to-face lessons each week. Because the course moves at a fast pace, you should also expect to spend 1 to 2 hours per week working independently at home.
What will I learn?
The course will improve your English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills - allowing you to progress both academically and personally, building confidence in literacy and communication skills for life, work, and further education.
What will the course lead on to?
Successful completion of this course may lead to futher study of English at higher level, such as GCSE English.
Are there any links with industry and university?
Achieving a level 2 Functional Skills qualification is recognised by most businesses and Higher Education establishments as the equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 (always check with the provider as to the qualifications they require).
